Q8. Shouldn’t we focus on passing state-level legislation to restrict abortions?
A8. While we commend any legislative effort to save lives, recent history shows that the courts will still likely strike down legislation which reduces abortions. However, state laws which include fetal personhood provisions (such as Georgia’s heartbeat law) can help to build momentum for the Life Amendment nationwide. If 38 states pass fetal personhood provisions, those states would then be likely to also pass the Life Amendment (even if the 12 remaining states continued to be strongly pro-abortion).
